Swamp Dwellers were a Wellington group around from 1958 to 1961. They originated from Miramar and were initially a skiffle group.

They brought in Ken Cooper to organise and manage their affairs. He also helped out from time to time, playing the bongos. They gradually added more members and became more of a rock and roll band. Gary Foot head was added on double bass, Doug Harrap on piano and Ray Earle on drums. They became regulars at the Rio Grande in Hobart Street, Miramar.

They built up a strong following and in 1961 decided on a name change, becoming the Premiers.
