New Zealand Alternate Postal Services
COURAL Rural Mail
The Rural Couriers Ltd (COURAL) was a society
established by RD contractors in the Manawatu to generate revenue to supplement
their contracts with NZ Post Ltd. They began operating during the 1970's and
concentrated on circulars and courier parcels.
Deregulation of postal
services in 1998 provided an opportunity for contractors to deliver local mail
on their rural delivery routes. COURAL
registered as a Postal Operator and
supplied an identifier to allow contractors, acting as agents for COURAL, to
make deliveries legally.
The delivery service commenced on October 16, 1998.
