Introduction
 
Telstra Chip Cards were introduced in 1997. They replaced the Anritsu System that had been in place since December 1989.

On the reverse of all Chip Cards is a Card Code as well as a serial number. For Chip Cards, this Card Code is used for identifying each card.

The Card Code Number on the back of the cards consists of the  following:

The Year of the Telstra booking of the planned production of the card  is XX,
The next 3 digits are the cards Dollars Value $$$,
The subsequent 3 digits are the Card Number for the year YYY, and
The last letter on the card defines the Card Type as follows;

N - National Issue
       P - Promotional Issue
     A - Advertising Issue
            L - Limited Edition Issue
       I - International Issue

For example, Card Code 98002003A is a $2 Advertising card which was the 3rd booked for production in 1998.

All cards have an Expiry Date shown as MM/YYYY

 

There were 6 different Chip Types used by Telstra for the Phonecards.
