This card was commissioned to commemorate the 1994
Springbok tour of New Zealand. It was the first tour since the
controversial 1981 tour, that was marred by protests,
picketing and
violence, resulting in a cut in all sporting ties with South Africa.
This card can be found with either ADCB
(2nd Back)
or ADDB (3rd & 4th Back) control numbers. The ADCB and the first ADDB print are quite
scarce.
The ADDB control number has two printings, the first, the last
line, starting "for Telecom" ends with "at Telecom Centres". On the
second, it ends with "at our normal place of business".
There were two cards issued in this set, the second can be found in the
Dealer Cards section. See
NZ-D-19.
3,500 of the two cards were sold in a special presentation pack as
illustrated below.
The above card was also part of the Event Masters
Rugby On
Phonecards Presentation Folder.
This card was also included in the
Collector Pack
AdCards Volume Six NZ-CP-29
and was overprinted on the reverse with
Collectors Issue 1994 or International Collectors Issue 1994, if
included in the International Pack.
