The first issue for 1996 saw a significant change in issuing policy of booklets.
This was the first time that a multiple number of booklets of the same value for the same issue were released.
Also, barcodes have been on the reverse of the booklet for a number of years, but now there were two different barcodes available for the same booklet. Australia Post had decided that they needed to distinguish between Philatelic Sales and General Counter Sales.
These two different barcodes did not happen on every issue from this point on, as they were intermittent at the beginning.
Barcodes are distinguishable with Philatelic barcodes beginning with "1" until May 2006 when they changed to "3". General barcodes have always begun with a "2".
In March 2011 it became harder, when both barcodes began with the same number.
The Centenary Of AFL booklets were available in a special folder that contained all 16 booklets, representing one for each club in the competition.
In this set of booklets, the Philatelic barcodes were all unique numbers, as can be seen on the scans lower right. The General barcodes were all the same number 273729. These General barcode booklets are quite scarce and at this stage I can only show those that I have.
There is one official overprint and that was done on the Brisbane Bears booklet for the Queensland Stamp and Coin Expo 1996.
Four private overprints exist. The first is an overprint on the official overprint for the Queensland ASDA Dinner. The others were done on the Sydney Swans booklet. They were the 7th SCDAA overprint, the ASDA Countdown to The Sydney Olympics 2000, and the Winners Home and Away.
